Up to 4000 athletes from Tasmania, interstate and overseas are expected to participate in the inaugural Hobart Airport Marathon Festival, scheduled to run on Sunday, September 25, 2022. With spectators, friends, and family of participants in attendance an estimated 8,000 people are likely to attend. The event is forecast to generate significant visitor activity to Tasmania and will promote Tasmania’s stunning beauty, crisp clean environment, and iconic scenery to the running world. The Hobart Airport Marathon Festival will contribute around $2million to the Hobart economy each year.
Atlas Events are excited to be bringing this brand new event to Hobart.
The iconic Hobart course will appeal to elite and social runners alike. Hobart is the only capital city without a city centre marathon to showcase the city. The Hobart Airport Marathon Festival will increase tourism to the island. It offers participants the opportunity to run on fully closed roads and be a part of what will become a major Australian state capital city running event on the annual calendar.
A three-year sponsorship deal will see Hobart International Airport as the naming rights partner for the Hobart Airport Marathon Festival 2022 – 2024.
Variety the Childrens Charity of Tasamina, is the major beneficiary of the event. All participants will share in the opportunity to put their hard work toward a great cause by fundraising for and donating to Variety Tasmania.

Event Details
Date: The event is scheduled for September 24-25, 2022.
Distances: Full marathon (42.195km), half marathon (21.0975km), 10km, 5km run, 5km walk, 2km kids and community race.
Location: All races will start and finish in Hunter Street, Hobart – in front of Henry Jones IXL.
Course: The course will be on closed roads in Hobart and the surrounding areas.
Number of entrants: Capped at 4000
